New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

There are no hard and fast figures which represent a normal blood pressure. And very often doctors and other experts cannot even decide between them what an ideal blood pressure range is for an adult.

However it is usually agreed that somewhere between 110/70 and 125/80 is considered to be an average blood pressure for a grown person, though someone with naturally low blood pressure may be closer to a range of 100/60.

A blood pressure of 140/90 is considered to be high, though as a person gets older, this falls into the more normal range for people.

Contrary to popular belief, blood travels as it spurts through constantly, not in an even flowing motion throughout the body. Hence the tendency of pressure to peak right after the heart beats and ebb right before the next one. This would be the normal pattern.

The two blood pressure figures would then correspond to the pressures at the peak and ebb points respectively. The stronger the arteries are, the more they resist the force of the blood and the lower the blood pressure.

As mentioned above, healthy blood pressure tends to rise for older individuals, due to the lessened flexibility of their arteries. But 90 would still be the highest possible value for the lower, or systolic figure for individuals who are less than sixty years old.

A lot of studies that have researched the incidence of high blood pressure for both black and white adults have observed that hypertension, or high blood pressure, is more prevalent for African-Americans as compared to Caucasians. A lot of follow-up studies have ensued as researchers try to find out whether this higher incidence pertains to certain racial, socioeconomic or dietary factors.

Many people who suffer from high blood pressure cannot quite ascertain what would be the exact cause of their condition. They may be fit, have a very healthy lifestyle yet their blood pressure remains consistently high for no apparent reason. This is called Primary or essential high blood pressure. However, there also may be an actual medical concern that results in the raised blood pressure, thus the condition known as Secondary High Blood Pressure.

High blood pressure is quite common in Western society ? try about one out of four individuals. A lot of people consider this part and parcel of their daily lives and do not realize that this condition can result in complications, such as kidney failure or heart disease. But that hasn?t diminished the number of people who walk around whistling a happy tune, blissfully unaware that they may not be in the best of health after all, due to high blood pressure.
